The
Bakehouse Art Complex is a not-for-profit arts and
education
organization, dedicated to attracting the best
artists in South Florida to a workplace in a
permanent facility that provides low-rent studios, exhibition
galleries, meeting rooms, classrooms, and professional
development opportunities. The Complex preserves a historic
1930's commercial bakery building in Miami-Dade County; open
and free to the public.
history
The Bakehouse was founded in 1985 when the organizers
bought the abandoned American
Baking Company 1930's
building and property located in the Wynwood area of
Miami-Dade County. After
extensive interior
reconfiguration, the BAC opened in 1986 to house artists'
studios and exhibit their work. The
complex itself features
70 low-rent studios, exhibition galleries, meeting rooms,
classrooms, a dark room,a
print lab, a clay facility and
professional development opportunities. The
artist
population represents more than a dozen nationalities,
reflective of Miami's multi-ethnic character.
Painters
and sculptors, ceramicists, potters and printers,
photographers, furniture and clothing designers,
artisans working in glass and creating fine metal jewelry,
all work, exhibit, and develop their disciplines here,
finding education, creativity, and camaraderie in the
nurturing atmosphere of the Bakehouse Art Complex.
The BAC, the pioneer in The Wynwood Art District,
is one
of Miami's most cutting-edge cultural facilities. The
real treat
comes when the public visits and guests can view
the artists at work and purchase their creations.

services. Donations of labor, materials, and/or equipment are tremendously
valuable to us. If you operate or have a close connection to a service
company, or any other type of organization that might be able to and
interested in offering products or services, please contact us. Most in-kind
contributions are tax-deductible. Check with your accountant for specifics.
